I've been managing my Exchange emails via Apple Mail on my Mac (current version 10.13.4) for the past 6-8 months mostly without any issues. This week it started prompting me for my password. After entering the password however it came back with 'unable to verify account name or password'.

When an email account is offline, a lightning bolt icon appears at the end of the Favorites bar, just below the search field. The icon also appears next to the account’s mailboxes in the Mail sidebar.

In the Mail app on your Mac, do one of the following:

  • Take all accounts online: Click the lightning bolt icon or choose Mailbox > Take All Accounts Online.

  • Take a specific account online (if you have more than one account): Click the lightning bolt icon next to the account’s mailbox, or choose Mailbox > Online Status > Take [account] Online.

If you can’t take an account online, make sure you’re connected to the internet. If a warning icon appears next to the account name, click it to open Connection Doctor. Learn more about using Connection Doctor.

Some mailbox names can appear dimmed if you don’t have permission to access them, such as public mailboxes on a mail server.

Mail User Guide

Any email account you use in Mail has a set of standard mailboxes—Inbox, Sent, Drafts, and Trash. You can create your own mailboxes to help keep your email organized. For example, you could create a Book Club mailbox, with mailboxes inside it to organize messages by author or genre, and then move messages to one of the mailboxes.

Tip: If you want to organize messages without moving them around, use Smart Mailboxes.

Create mailboxes

  1. In the Mail app on your Mac, choose Mailbox > New Mailbox.

  2. Click the Location pop-up menu, then choose where to create the mailbox.

    • On My Mac: Mailboxes you create in On My Mac are local, meaning you can access them only on this computer.

Nov 28, 2017  I Have a Mac mini and had the same problem, but I was using a SAMSUNG external CD drive. After restarting I still had the same problem - I found that my CD rom was plugged into my USB HUB and when I moved it directly into the Mac mini it worked perfectly. Not much help to you directly, but hopefully someone else with the same issue. Itunes says disc burner or software not found on mac windows 10.

    • Account: Mailboxes created on your email account’s mail server can be accessed on any computer or device where you use the account.

If you choose an existing mailbox as the location, the new mailbox is created within the existing mailbox—like a subfolder.

  3. Type a name for the mailbox, then click OK.

In a work environment, public read-only mailboxes may be available in your email account. For example, a public folder may be used to provide information for all users of a company email system. You can’t create mailboxes within or save messages to these read-only mailboxes. To find out how to post messages to the mailbox, ask your email administrator.

To reorder the mailboxes for an email account in the Mail sidebar, drag a mailbox to a new location within the account.

Delete mailboxes

WARNING: Deleting a mailbox permanently deletes the mailbox and its contents (including other mailboxes), and can’t be undone. If you use Time Machine to back up files on your Mac, you can use it to recover previous versions of a deleted mailbox.

  1. In the Mail app on your Mac, select a mailbox in the Mail sidebar.

  2. Choose Mailbox > Delete Mailbox.

If you have problems deleting a mailbox on the server for an IMAP account, contact the provider of your account.

When you delete a Smart Mailbox, the messages it displayed remain in their original locations.
