The Device slider controls the master volume. The level you set for each app is relative to the master volume, so as you change the master volume, the volumes for each app also change.

With Apple swiftly transitioning their distribution for software over to the Mac App Store, many are wondering how volume licensing arrangements will work under those circumstances. Read on for the answers.

Oct 29, 2014  I'm talking about volume control for each application, not the total system. The way the volume works for the system is perfectly fine. In Pianpub the volume control is slider in the app itself. In iTunes itself Apple include it's own Volume Control. Lets try the same on mac, still the same guy, still the very same loud and beautiful.

As it turns out, the answer is scattered among some Apple FAQ’s and other documents. Earlier this month, we discussed how it will work for OS X Lion. Essentially, business or educational institutions that require volume licensing have options – they can either visit the Apple Business or Apple Education Store websites, or can call their Apple representatives.

Since Apple seems to be doing this, I wonder how long it will be before other companies gain the ability to provide Mac App Store volume licenses? There are many apps that I can see users wanting to volume license. and currently there doesn’t seem to be a solution in play.

/Volumes is at the root level, not in your home directory. Are you sure you're typing the command exactly as it's written? You can go one level at a time to be sure you're in the right place.
cd /Volumes (should take you to the Volumes directory at the root level)
If you type
cd Volumes (it will look for a Volumes directory relative to your current directory)
So type
cd /Volumes (if your Mac booted, this directory is definitely present!)
cd CNU680 (no leading /. If you get an error message, then this directory is not present)
cd Mac
Those three commands above are the equivalent to cd /Volumes/CNU680/Mac
You can also type
ls /Volumes
to see what directories are located there.
